Travel Story- Short trip to Haunted Bhangarh fort Rajasthan
« on: November 09, 2014, 02:28:06 AM »
This is a blog post when Gotripperz went to short weekend day trip to Haunted Bhangarh fort in Rajasthan and now I have a Bhangarh story to remember but do we have a horror bhangarh story to haunt you?

4922-0

Prologue
It was a lazy Saturday evening, I had to visit office on the weekend. I wrapped up all work at around 10 pm in the night and headed straight to PG, where we planned a Saturday night get together. Two among us, both Aashishs, were planning to leave for Jaipur that night but our very own Mr. Aashish  8) (Jain) cancelled his plan to go to Jaipur and thus Mr. other Aashish(Sharma) was left with no other choice but to stay and to leave for Jaipur next morning. But as you all know how these evening get togethers bring the best of brotherhoods among a group and that's what happened next, it was just about time to call it a day and it was already 2 am, but we brothers Niraj Rai and myself decided to go with Sharma to drop him to Jaipur next morning. Till now it was all sane as per our standards but then one of us, The Culprit and we are yet to find him, murmured "Let's go to drop Sharma to Jaipur in a Car now" and that was 'the moment', 4 of us were ready within 5 mins with our bags packed and it took us 2-3 mins more to persuade our 5th bro Purvang. It was still going a bit sane as we were going to Jaipur till now and then our very own advisor Mr. Jain gave us the precious Idea of going to Bhangarh and then at around 2:30 am in the night, we five were sitting inside my very own little chevy and ready to test our guts to explore the Haunted fort of Bhangarh.

Introducing the group and (I am the Photographer not in pic):

The Journey
Within minutes we were on Gurgaon Jaipur Highway NH8 and paid a toll at Manesar toll plaza and finally we all 5 realized and accepted the fact that we were really going to Bhangarh and there ain't be a U-turn now. Below map shows the route we took to Bhangarh.
4858-2

We took a route via Alwar and hence needed to take an almost Uturn(ignore above uturn remark  :P ) towards left to Bhiwadi from NH8. Bhiwadi to Alwar stretch, though we paid a toll here, is not so good and we were not able to cross 80kmph even on an empty road. After driving for an hour or so we took our first short tea break. Weather was perfect on that night of 1st November 2014, as the season was welcoming winters. After having tea we commenced again in our mission to arrive Bhangarh before the dawn breaks.
We drove and drove and we started to see strange kind of cows :o on the road. At first we ignored and then the creature started appearing more often and then we realized, those were Dears on the road and then we read one board Sariska Tiger reserve. We were driving inside a forest area and that too Tiger reserve. The road was good enough but there were speed breakers at every 100 meters. We were still hopeful that we would reach there in dark. Suddenly a thought came in my mind while driving in the reserve area, "What if we have a puncture over here?" and then I pressed the break pedal and switched off the headlights of the car, it was pitch black. I can say night was darker than dark. Then I prayed for rest of our journey and switched on the lights again and by the time we left Sariska National Park, sun was just about to rise and road was terrible. There I lost hope of reaching Bhangarh in dark. There is a small village called Ajabgarh on the way but there was nothing Ajab about the place. Legend says that Ajabgarh and Bhangarh fought a war and out of many myths, one says that war was one of the reason for the ruined Ghost town of Bhangarh. As we passed Ajabgarh, dawn broke and the view was amazing. It felt like we were driving in some hill station of Himachal Pradesh. Weather was cold, road were curvy and there was a hint of fog surrounded by small mountains on one side and a beautiful lake on another. It was a picture perfect.

Inside the Haunted Town Bhangarh

We were enjoying our beautiful journey in the perfect morning and suddenly we saw a signboard saying Bhangarh 3 kms to the right. It was a perfect signboard to a haunted place with a crow sitting on top of it.

Offlate Bhangarh has become very famous and I had a perception about that place that around the town there would be many tourist establishments but there was none. Even villagers were looking at us with a suspicion while we progressed upon that narrow road to the fort. And then there it was, the dead end and a Main Gate. I never thought Bhangarh's entrance would be something like that. The entry was silent, no human being was visible, just few bikes and one Wagon-R and that famous board from Archaeological Survey of India saying 'it is prohibited to enter the premises after sunset to sunrise'.
4868-7  4878-8

We entered and we were walking past a kind of ancient market on our both sides. That market was ruined in such a symmetry that top of all the structures were missing. It looked like somebody actually ripped apart the top of all the structures with precision.

There were huge trees and those were scary enough to look at them and monkeys along that lane were also making us realize that we were unwanted in that place.
4880-13  4882-14  4884-15   4886-16

By that time we accepted this fact that though we couldn't comment upon anything supernatural about that place because we didn't come in dark to feel anything but to be there in dark would take guts to even cross that ruined market to reach the fort. In groups, one can even think of crossing that alley but if you are alone and with all those stories in your mind it requires real iron balls to cross that lane in the night.

The Haunted Fort

We finally reached the main compound of the fort. Fort was built on a mountain in the backdrop and the garden in main compound is still well maintained. The architecture was not much different from any other ancient architecture from that era. But the different thing was, every thing was runied but Gopinath temple. Gopinath temple is still in very good shape, the only structure that is intact. But when you get inside the fort and start climbing upstairs through those narrow stairs you again get a feeling of challenging yourself to come there at night alone. It will not be an easy task to climb those dark stairs. But in the day it was not at all scary and also we were in a group of five. When we reached at the top of fort, the view from there was mesmerizing. Few pics from the fort.

So, that was all that ghost town of Bhangarh had to offer in that early morning. We felt nothing scary but night experience would be altogether different. With that we hit the road again to continue our remaining journey to Jaipur but for us the different off-beat location Bhangarh was covered and ticked. I hope I get a chance to experience the same place at night also.

Very overrated place... they maintain this kind of misconception about this place to keep attracting tourists
Leave the trail, wherever you travel.
