Off-beat destination: Barot Valley
« on: May 10, 2016, 02:35:37 PM »
Hi everyone
Everyone common person once in their life want to spend a part of his/her life sitting next to a cottage, with fresh and cold river water flowing in front, catching fishes from river, surrounded by big size trees, and practically no noise of vehicles and city-lifestyle. If you are among the same category of person then I would suggest you to go to Barot Valley.

Its a valley, originally developed in 1920s for Shanan Hydel Project is now a tourist location in Mandi district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Barot was difficult to access until 1975 when a road was opened. (Now also its not that easy reaching the place.). If you go there and interact with locals, you would come to know many top known politicians usually come their for spending some time with family and nature that include Capt. Amrinder Singh, Smriti Irani, Rajnath Singh, and others.

I visited this place 1 week back. I love solo trips and drive all the way from Delhi to Barot and then Barot to Delhi within 2 Days only on my Royal Enfield. It was a hectic drive but still once you reach their you never feel hectic or anything like that. This place is still not commercialized, that is the best part.
So let me start explaining my journey, (because I travel solo, so take only limited pictures from my mobile)
- Started my journey on 30th April Saturday 5.30 AM in the morning.
         - After few hiccups with luggage reached border @6.30 AM
- First stop, breakfast at Zhilmil Dhabha@ Karnal @7.30 AM
         - I never miss Aalo-pyaaz paranthe with white-makkhan at this Dhabha
         - suddenly I realized that I am going a bit slow and decided to speed up
- Second stop, Chandigarh Engg. College, Near Zirakpur
         - i have done my Engineering from this College, so its my duty so sit few moments and see how things are changing rapidly
- Third Stop, Kiratpur Sahib @ ~11.AM
         - When I was about to reach Kiratpur best part is crystal clear water flowing near the road, beauty of Punjab
         - I couldn't stop myself and I clicked photo for revive my memory when I grow old.
- Forth Stop, Bilaspur @ 1 PM
         - By this time I was tired and needed rest, so I took a rest of 1 hour here.
         - Bilaspur is a well settled city, you can get whatever you wish here
         - met few old friends of mine, they were also amazed to see me as a surprise.
         - You could also find Royal Enfield showroom in Bilaspur for any technical faults
         - Then started my journey again after having lunch
- Fifth Stop, Joginder nagar @ 4 PM
         - After Bilaspur, I followed to Sunder nagar and Joginder Nagar.
         - At many places you find traffic Jams as well. Roads are not well build
         - Proper markets are developed by the roadside
- Destination, Barot @ 6 PM
         - From Joginder nagar Barot is just 40KM away but roads are risky, so advise you to go as slow as possible.
         - If anything wrong happen you won't find anyone for help
         - When I was about to cross half-way, I could feel the dropping temperature in the month of April as well.
         -  when I first saw the small houses made of stones and clay, it was amazing. I was soo much happy that I had done something which I havn't done before
         - Then I was easily able to get a room in Fishery Department Cottage, for just Rs. 500. That includes my stay in cottage, Dinner, Breakfast. and best part a cook who will cook whatever you want him to cook.
         - I being a vegetarian, and never try new food items at such place so I asked him for Dal and Aalo Gobhi. To my surprise it was amazing. They have their own farms next to cottage and they cook them in Amul butter.

It was a tiring day for me. Temperature was ~17-20 degree.
After having dinner I went for a walk near river, it was totally dark with moon light being the source of light. then I came back and slept.
In morning I woke up at 5AM.
Thankfully I was carrying Jacket with me (thanks to my mom). temperature was near 10 degree.
I went for a walk near Dam. It was amazing.
I sat their for 2 hours and then realized that I am hungry. It was a amazing experience watching water flowing at such a great speed. All you could hear is the noise of water and wind.

Then I went back to my cottage, took a bath with hottem hot water had 5-6 Paratha's and packed my bag.

Then I went for fishing, got a license for Rs. 100 and stick on rent for Rs. 300. selected a location to sit after testing 4-5 places. was able to catch the fish in just 15 mins.
being soft by heart and a veggie, I returned the stick back and slept near the river for 1 hour.

Then started my journey back for Delhi by 1 PM and reached Delhi by 12AM at night

quite hectic, but seriously very beautiful trip. Unforgettable
Will attach pics in a day or two.

Leave the trail, wherever you travel.
