Re: Trip To Spiti Valley
« Reply #3 on: August 15, 2015, 02:14:58 AM »
This Road Trip Was In my Mind from last year. This year we were planning for Badrinath and Kedarnath in the month of mid july because it's best time to visit valley of flowers. But this year too uttrakhand was badly hit by monsoon, roads were damaged and Yatra was temporarily Suspended. So we decided to change plan and try for some barren location in Himachal and we came up with this tribal circuit.

After going through Varies Blogs From Other travelers, we made an Itinerary But on this circuit we can't predict our travel plan . We thought we will cover complete circuit in 6 days from rudrapur to manali via kaza and back to rudrapur via bilaspur covering Tashigang and Mud Valley circuit but in the end we dropped Mud Valley and tashigang circuit

Day 0 (Saturday)

Group Members 4
Travel Mode  Uttrakhand Roadways,Indigo

Before starting this travel Blog I want to tell you an interesting or stupid thing. We were aware of every minute detail about this circuit and kind of vehicle required to complete this circuit yet we choose indigo having lower ground clearance  :o and to add misery to our mistake even driver was not aware of this route (will tell later why vehicle with lower ground clearance is not suitable for this circuit)

After Completing our Shift job we boarded uttrakhand roadways bus from rudrapur to dehradun. we reached D.dun around 4:30 AM

DAY 1 (Sunday)

Our Driver arrived around 5 AM and our EPIC  ;D Journey begins

After solan we were welcomed by cool breeze and rain it followed us till THEOG

9591-0

We bypassed Ponta Sahib, shimla &  kufri  but some of our group members were keen to visit shimla and kufri, we somehow convinced them to bypass these locations  8)

9589-1

According to our Primary Itinerary we had to hit SARAHAN on Day 1 and our night halt was Bhimkali temple -Sarahan Temple lodge

But Due to bad weather and rain fall we Reached Jeori Around 6 PM and decided it's not worth to travel further 17 KM off route for night stay , so we dropped our plan to see Bhimkali Temple

In case you are planning for Night Stay at SARAHAN (most of people do) try to reach before 4 pm or else opt Rampur for night stay because in rampur number of hotels are more in comparison to Jeori, in jeori only 2 hotels are available and they are  not descent

The road from D.dun to Jeori is pretty good beautiful landscapes and satluj river alongside

9587-2

But After Narkanda climate became hot and humid till Riwali, It's a downhill road but Humidity on high level. This is the only stretch where you will feel hot

9593-3

Narkanda is a beautiful location you can stay there for  1 hr or more depending on your optional stop for the day and can enjoy fast food like momos and soups  & visit hatu mata temple

9585-4

we reached narkanda at 1 pm and stayed there for 1 hr but had momos and soups not visited hatu mata mandir

9583-5

So after all bypass and not to mention some health issues(will continue for rest of the journey) related to one of our fadu member  ;) we reached jeori at 6 pm and decided to stay there.

9581-6

as i mentioned above only 2 hotels are available, we opted a newly constructed one but irony was waiting to happen , rooms were without fan. At jeori humidity on high so fans are required but somehow we  managed our stay. In evening we visited a temple few meters away from jeori.

9579-7

I read somewhere Like Minder Travels Best But in every group one members comes up with something different and in our case he turned out to be vegetarian, hatts off to him because he managed surprisingly very well in whole trip because on the later half of our journey high altitude location are waiting us and at these location there is a word exist AMS

Day 2 (Monday)

Next morning we woke up at 6 am but after fan issue we came to know that water supply is not available, it took 30 min for things to get normal. We started our further journey at 7 am.

According to primary itinerary our halt pt for the day was tabo, But after  checking out the road conditions for the day we realized it will be tough ride

Initial Few km for the day were awesome, few water falls, view of satluz river and small caves on  roads

We came across few hydel power projects and at chora we entered into the beautiful kinnaur valley   but after Bhawnagar the road condition started deterioting  from hot mix roads we are now on bumpy roads

9619-0

At tapri we had breakfast, it was a special one because we tasted a new kind of dish known as Ghimta as i am not  a hardcore non vegetarian but still i tasted one piece of it and for me taste was just unexplainable may be other like it

9607-1

After travelling so much on grass lands and mountains with tree lines its time for us to enter into the land of  desert mountains ,slowly tree lines started disappearing and roads also converted from hot mix to rough ones. The feeling was like we are entering into a new world, hydel projecs, tunnels and dizzying altitudes were waiting for us

9617-2

After Powari there is in an intersection with one road going for Reckong peo downside road for puh, we skipped Reckong peo and headed for puh because road condition were too bad to travel extra miles

9615-3

Road is bad till akpa but in between akpa and after it at some stretches its good
After suspension bridge at akpa there is a police check post for registration of all the vehicles going towards spiti valley

9605-4

From khab to nako the condition of road is good even hot mix

9599-5

The real hike start from Khab to Nako, it’s an amazing uphill road .you will applaud BRO for making Roads even at this altitude

9601-6

Rugged mountains all around and road just going up and up  but care also required because at one intersection sign board  is missing its somewhere between khab and nako . this part of journey will provide panoramic views it’s like we were going towards the peak and everything else was so down . signs of civilization in patches. People say AMS is the main concern for most of the travellers specially at this hike, but i don’t think so because the view is so amazing and you will forget everything else.

9621-7

9611-8

Some people will suggest to go for nako lake but we avoided it and its really a great decision. All travellers should avoid Nako for Night stay because its not just for the altitude problem (AMS), but Tabo is better in comparison with Nako

From Nako its a downhill drive till shikhar

9603-9

At sumdo there is an intersection for Giu village(Gompa housing mummy)  we unknowingly skipped it and missed the view of mummy

We reached tabo at 7 pm. Its a small but beautiful town of this terrain with facilities like govt hospital and school.

9613-10

We booked 2 room of a hotel and decided to go for evening walk and see the gompa mummy (still we are not aware of the fact that the road that leads for gompa mummy was already missed by us at sumdo  ) but later on we decided it’s better to take dinner and sleep in time and capture the beauty next morning

9609-11

There is also SBI bank and ATM facility available. One important thing about this terrain is only BSNL networks are available and they are controlled from Reckong Peo
Some  hotel owner provide internet facility too, but it all depends on the BSNL server

For dinner we opted Monastery Restaurant , food was good
After dinner we decided to move early next morning after capturing the beauty of this village because next day more distance and location were in our list but destiny had other plans
